This article analyzes some conceptualizations about the concept of public policies, from the perspective of what the State profits, economically speaking, from public policies. It addresses the following problem: “In addition to the social well-being promoted through public policies, does the State also have other gains, with regard to economic aspects?”. As a hypothesis, it is believed that it does, that is, that the State profits economically speaking with public policies. Analyzing whether the State profits economically speaking with public policies is the main objective. Specifically objective: to make some considerations about the concept of public policies; evaluate whether there is a romanticized bias about public policies that presents only the positive aspects of public policies; discuss what the State gains economically with the implementation of public policies of different kinds. Thus, the research is relevant for teachers, for science and for society. Qualitative theoretical research was carried out based on scientific articles and academic books.
