Resumo: Doctoral students and researchers worldwide face the publish or perish challenge. Given that the researchers are evaluated by their productivity, publishing in indexed and reputed journals is essential. However, this is not an easy task, as the rejection rates are increasing, as are the lead time between submission and acceptance for publication. In this paper we seek to identify the main motives for rejection of Brazilian articles in the business administration discipline by international academic journals. We also advance some clues on how the authors may improve their work towards future publication. This paper is descriptive and exploratory, and takes on a qualitative, refl exive and critical lens. We present some recommendations of both international referees and editors of well known academic journals, geared to the writing of higher quality papers and the creation of a research pipeline. We aim at contributing to understand how researchers may develop more relevant scientific research.KEYWORDS: Research; Publishing; Business administration; International periodicals; Making articles.

Considerando que pesquisadores são avaliados por sua produtividade, a publicação de artigos em revistas indexadas e bem qualifi cadas é imprescindível. No entanto, nem sempre essa tarefa é fácil, já que o índice de re jeição de artigos para publicação vem crescendo anualmente, assim como o tempo médio entre a submissão e as avaliações de um trabalho que pode ou não resultar em publicação. Este artigo tem por objetivo identifi car os principais mo - ti vos para a recusa de trabalhos brasileiros, na área de administração, em pe - riódicos internacionais e sugerir como melhorar a efetividade dos autores no de - senvolvimen to de seus originais. O artigo é descritivo e exploratório, com abor da gem qualitativa de cunho refl exivo e crítico. Apresentaremos algumas recomendações de editores e revisores de periódicos internacionais para o desenvolvimento de artigos de maior qualidade e para a criação de um pipeline de pesquisa. Pretendemos, assim, contribuir para que os pesquisadores desenvolvam investigação científi ca mais relevante.
