SURVEILLANCE MECHANISMS AND CONTROL DEVICES: THE CASE OF A FAMILY APPAREL INDUSTRY FROM MINAS GERAIS

Resumo: Political, social and economical transformations, more and more accelerated, change the businesses environment througout the world. In this context, companies of different branches, nationalities and sizes confront each other with aiming to win more market share or simply to guarantee their space in the market. This current context of constant environmental transformations demand from organizations, even family ones, new dynamics. Seeking to adaptat to this new situation and trying to give competitiveness to products, services and processes, the modern company often makes use of control and surveillance mechanisms. Thus, taking in view the social, political, and economical importance of the family organization, the present paper tried to investigate the interpretations of several social agents regarding the control and surveillance in the everyday working life. Through a qualitative-based approach this research studied the case of a family industry of clothes settled in the south of Minas Gerais. It was evidenced in the case analyzed that the control and the surveillance can be interpreted in way differentiated by the several social actors and that, to depend of the individual's hierarchical position, your perception will be different.

Nesse cenário, empresas de diferentes ramos, nacionalidades e tamanhos enfrentam-se com o objetivo de ganhar mais mercado ou simplesmente de garantir um espaço no mercado. Esse caráter atual de constantes transformações ambientais impõe às organizações, até mesmo às familiares, uma nova dinâmica. Visando à sua adequação para essa nova condição e ao alcance de competitividade em produtos, serviços e processos, a empresa moderna utiliza-se, muitas vezes, de mecanismos de controle e vigilância. Assim, tendo em vista a importância sociopolítica e econômica da organização familiar, o presente trabalho buscou conhecer as interpretações dos vários agentes sociais a respeito do controle e da vigilância no cotidiano laboral. Apoiado em uma abordagem qualitativa, estudou-se o caso de uma indústria de confecções de caráter familiar localizada no sul de Minas Gerais.
