PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES COMPETITIVENESS UNDER A RESOURCE BASED VIEW

Resumo: The resource-based view states that the resources of the organization constitute in the main determinant of sustained competitive advantage. Therefore, the objective of the research is identify the professor's competence required by private universities in the State of São Paulo, as being the primordial element to enhance the competitiveness of these institutions. The qualitative and quantitative researches revealed that the professor's competence is not shown as competitiveness factor. The investments in infrastructure and monthly fees and tuition are viewed as competitive advantage. This perspective is coherent with the operational role of HR area of these institutions, that doesn't carry out actions to develop the competencies identified in this research. The selection of professor is based upon academic credentials, the knowledge of a specific area and the professional experience. The professor's distinctive competencies should be the focus of primordial development in order to become a source of sustained competitive advantage for the universities.KEYWORDS: Competitiviness, teaching competence, private universities.

Assim, o objetivo da pesquisa é identificar as competências requeridas de docentes universitários de universidades privadas do Estado de São Paulo, como elemento primordial para elevar a competitividade destas instituições. As pesquisas qualitativa e quantitativa revelaram que a competência dos docentes não se evidencia como fator de competitividade. Os investimentos em infra-estrutura e preço de mensalidade constituem-se em uma vantagem competitiva. Esta visão é coerente com o papel operacional da área de RH destas instituições, que não desempenha ações para desenvolver as competências identificadas na pesquisa. A contratação de docentes baseia-se na titulação, no conhecimento da área de atuação e na experiência.
