A favela como espaço da relação entre religião e violência: Uma análise da função da Teologia da Satisfação Penal do universo batista e as ambíguas frestas discursivas que operam para a não-violência.

The purpose of this work is to investigate the relationship between Religion and Violence from the favela Coronel Leôncio, located in the city of Niterói – Rio de Janeiro. In the first moment, we will develop how the process of industrialization of the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói contributed directly to the formation of the favelas, which emerged as a space of agglomeration of the poor and those who served as workers in the period of economic advancement in the early 20th century. These agglomerations have emerged as an effect of the existing social segregation, being aggravated by the supply of employment in the industries. This combination of industrialization-favelization resulted in an increase and aggravation of the phenomenon of violence, which can be perceived multifaceted and according to the time and space in which it is analyzed. In the second moment, we will study how, with the increase in the general frame of violence, religion emerges as a mainstay of individuals thrown into the marginal, violent spaces and precarious infrastructure for the maintenance of a dignified life. Finally, we will analyze this protective function of religion from the discourse of the Baptist Church located in the favela Coronel Leôncio, considering the use of implicit violence present in this. Technically called Theology of Penal Satisfaction, this theology bases the life of the faithful of the Baptist Church in the favela Coronel Leôncio and ends up reproducing implicitly the violence of the daily life that intends to surpass. In spite of this, the mentioned Baptist Church presents some ambiguities in its discourse that can be understood like reformulations and theological reviews of the common discursive base of denomination. These ambiguities, although unintentional, can be considered seeds of the utopia of perceiving violence no longer as a fundamental element of religious discourse, social formation and human relations.
