Resumo: A sense of purpose and / or meaning at work is an essential dimension of existence that promotes a well lived life. Studies show that work facilitates human purpose, meaning and aspirations, as well as self-fulfillment leading to one’s improvement in health. Generally speaking, every person has a potential call and vocation, which has its positive side when perceived and lived, as well as its harming side. The present work has as its objective identifying, analyzing, evaluating and discussing the associations between call, vocation and resilience in the context of nursing professionals. It aims a) at verifying the validity evidence of the Full Scale and the Brief Call and Vocation Scale and b) at verifying the validity indicators of the Resilience Scale. Therefore, the context chosen was nursing, considering this area has already been studied by several national and international authors from the perspective of a vocation profession. In other words, the values of nursing are aligned with the vocation concept. As for the adopted method of this work, a quantitative approach with confirmatory anchoring was taken, by using the survey, with printed questionnaires (Time 1: April/May 2020) and online (Time 2: April/May 2021). The collected sample was taken throughout the Brazilian territory, composed of 760 respondents (assistants, technicians and nurses) aged 40.7 in average; most females: 83.6%; married/stable union: 65%; with high level of education: 67%; working as nurses: 30.8%; as nursing teachers: 32.1%; from the south east area: 64.3% and working in public companies: 65%. In terms of data processing, SPSS v.22 software (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) was used for descriptive statistical analysis, statistical analysis of construct relationships and for analysis of scale validity indicators of structural equation modeling by the maximum likelihood algorithm for data with moderate abnormality distribution using the AMOS software (Analysis of Moment Structures). As a result, validity indicators of the instruments were evidenced and it was confirmed that call and vocation are predictors of resilience in the nursing context (R2=33%), and Prosocial Orientation (altruism) was the component that most contributed to the explanation of the theoretical-conceptual model, followed by Sense of Purpose / Meaning and Transcendental Invocation. It was concluded that there is a moderate / almost high correlation (r=0.61) between the meaning of the profession and altruism and that the respondents perceive themselves as resilient professionals. It was also evidenced that the older and the more experienced the professional is, the more resilience intensifies itself. In other words, the younger and the less time of professional experience, the lower the resilience is. Resilience development programs are suggested as early as the first year in the curriculum of Higher Education Schools of Nursing, as high resilience interferes positively with patient care. In a complementary way, analyses of moderation and difference between mean values were carried out, involving the sociodemographic data of those surveyed, in order to reveal other conclusions. (AU)
