This academic production presents the legal thought of the father of modern federalism, calvinist reformer Johannes Althusius, exposing his theological convictions. It presents the historical context of the Protestant and cultural reform of Althusius' political calvinism, also talking about the impact of calvinism's thinking on the efficiency of the rule of law as currently understood. A specific chapter was not separated to talk about what the rule of law was, but Althusian federalism was presented as one of the forms of limitation of power, and the historical development Theory of Separation of Powers, especially as proposed by calvinists and subsequently made public by Montesquieu. Finally, exposure of the mode, devoid of foundation and identity, as has been managed by the institutions of the rule of law, depending on the influence of postmodern thought. In turn, it was noted how much these institutions were actually associated with the theological thinking of their first proponents.
