Socio-spatial production of tourism in Ixtapan de la Sal, Mexico

Resumo: Based on spatial practice, representation of space, spaces of representation and economic models of capitalism, a spatial analysis was carried out on the historical development of the social production of tourism in the Municipal Capital of Ixtapan de la Sal, Mexico. Therefore, the mixed methodology was used, with prevalence in the qualitative, and thematic maps of 1980 y 2013 cut to reveal that the exploitation of social, natural, and cultural resources by a local elite group produced both physical and symbolic transformations in the tourist destination, such as: the concentration of physical infrastructure and road equipment, physical expansion into areas with natural wealth, socio-spatial fragmentation, and economic dependence on tourism, as well as changes in the imaginaries of the local and floating population.
