Resumo: This study focuses on the social contexts represented in the plots of the film “Garapa”, a documentary that portrays the lives of families suffering from hunger in the interior of Ceará, in contrast to the environment of the of the reality “Mulheres Ricas” (Rich Women), a television attraction about the lives of Brazilian women who have high purchasing power. The social inequality existing in the country, caused, among other things, by the poor distribution of income, contributes to widening the gap that separates a very rich class from na extremely poor one, as demonstrated in the respective works analyzed. We found that the operationalization of public policies for income distribution, aimed at the poor population, despite showing good results, as it is the only resource existing in adverse contexts such as the interior of the Brazilian hinterland, remains merely assistential in nature.
