The World Health Organization appoints violence as the biggest public health problem and the one with the largest growth in all of the nations. Suicide, as one of the violence modes, the self-harm one, mobilizes the development of studies and prevention and treatment strategies around the world. The suicide attempt, a strong announcer of death by suicide, cannot be ignored within this context. This complex phenomenon brings as a requirement for the development of research in this area, the need of gathering contributions from several fields of knowledge. This paper proposes thinking systematically on how the family moves in time and space of the crisis generated by the suicide attempt of one of its members, unveiling, through the dynamics which is intrinsic to the participant families, a new glance towards the comprehension, prevention and treatment of this phenomenon. The thesis is organized into three sections, a theoretical one and two empiric ones that aim at answering to the objective of this investigation. The first section makes a theoretical reflection on the theme of the identity construction. It approaches the conception of inter-subjectivity, the constitution of family bonds and how the construction of the family identity is dialectically entangled with its self constitution. Within this context, the possibilities of the subject identity dissipation are strongly related to the family identity dissipation by bringing to the encounter that is established through the dialogue founded on the reciprocity, the possibility for the construction of histories of autonomy and continuity. Section two and section three work with the clinic material of this investigation.In the first one, the data of six families supply input in order to unveil the phenomenon by revealing family histories permeated by indiscriminations around the question: Who am I? The limits between the “I” and the other seem to have lost its plasticity, by constituting itself in a hindrance for moves towards differentiation. In this environment, suffering presents itself with emotions that limit the entry of the subject into some conversations. Then, solitude rises, the resources seem insufficient so that the suicide behavior becomes a possible way. The last article presents the history of two participating families through the construction of the genogramm as a resource for the establishment of a context that is propitious for the generative dialogue. It discusses the insertion of the genogramm in the therapeutic conversation, as a possibility of transcending its functioning origins in order to change itself into a resource of collaborative comprehension for new possibilities of being and living in the world. Finally, it concludes that this resource allows the co-exploitation, clarification and expansion of the meanings that emerge from the histories that the families tell and that affect the dynamics of the family relationship. The results of this thesis appoint to the relevance of the development of approaches for the prevention and treatment of self-inflicting violence that includes the attendance of families that have become vulnerable by the presence of the suicide crisis, by helping them to build creative opportunities in order to live and let live in an independent way of life without losing the sense of continuity.
