WHEAT BRAN SUPPLEMENTARY DIET AND THE NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF CHILDREN FROM 1 TO 7 YEARS OF AGE

Resumo: A controlled intervention study was developed during six months with 72 (seventy-two) children from twelve to elghty-four months of age, at day nurseries in the railway suburb in Salvador - Bahia, Brazil, with the purpose of evaluating the impact of wheat bran supplementary diet on nutritional status. Daily, it was added IOg of wheat bran to the intervention group diet, while the control group just received the standard diet, without the supplement. At the beginning of the research, the groups were homogeneous (the same age, sex and nutritional status). The wheat bran supplementary diet did not show any impact on the children nutritional status, considering the weight/age, weight/height and height/age anthropometric indicatiors (score Z).

À dieta do grupo intervenção (N=37) foram acrescidos 10 gramas diárias de farelo de trigo e o grupo controle (N=35) recebeu dieta padrão sem acréscimo do suplemento, Ao início do estudo, os grupos eram homogêneos (quanto à idade, sexo e estado nutricional).
