Resumo: This research assumed a biografíc orientation in the collecting of its data The emphasis on the professional roles as an object of analysis is part of a conception thatdeems it of great importance in individual se/f fullfilment needs; since in our socio-cultural enviroment work is of outstanding impor­ tance. As social demands over professional role becomes a central element of the individual's identity they must be studied in their articulation: individual history - his needs, desires, and conflicts - and social expectation. This relashionship between work and identity has been ana/ysed throughrespon­ se ot subjectsbymeansof interviews andTAT (Thematics Aperception Test). Social and personality factors were studied in relation to each other. lt will be showna case- one amongfivethathavebeen investigated - of a 63-years-old woman that worked as servent in a public high school.

A escolha de um papel profissional enquanto fonte de investimento está estreitamente ligada àpossibilidade de satisfação de algumas necessidades fundamentais do sujeito. Assim sendo, o estudo da relação social-identidade deve ser feito tendo como base a articulação entre as características sociais do papel em questão e a história do sujeito considerando suas necessidades, desejos e conflitos. Através de entrevistas e do uso do TAT (Teste da ApercepçãoTemática) buscou-se articular os fatores sociais e de personalidade na tentativa de compreensão da relação identidade e trabalho.
