The relationship between science and popular traditions is dynamic and, over the last few decades, even ambiguous. On the part of some, traditions are granted a status quo as a legitimate manifestation of the human being, even if rooted at some level lower than that of science, in terms of impact on the progress of social life. Popular knowledge is even taken as a source of interpretation from multiple analytical fronts, but always subject to the approval of so-called scientific methodologies, without being the authentic protagonists of the construction process. An example: a doctorate is done on the beliefs practiced by Amerindian peoples in the interior of the Amazon Forest, the content of their knowledge makes those who study it notable, but never – or almost never – offering them a prominent speaking role in congresses or other media of scientific dissemination. This is definitely not our case. That is, this is not the case with the current issue of Caminhos – Revista de Ciências da Religião, linked to the Postgraduate Program in Religious Sciences at the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás and, in addition, to the large evaluation area of CAPES Sciences of Religion and Theology, which historically maintains its legacy of attention to people and their knowledge and traditions, as a way of adding to the thematic set of humanity as a whole.
