SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION OF ACCESS TO BASIC SANITATION IN CHAPADA DIAMANTINA

Resumo: The Chapada Diamantina is a frontier for the expansion of agribusiness and tourism in Bahia, with its economic dynamics extremely dependent on the availability and quality of its water resources. However, the region has always had a deficit in basic sanitation coverage. To expand these services, the Federal Government enacted Law No. 11,445/2007. Considering the importance of this issue for the sustainable development of the region, this article aims to analyze the spatial distribution of access to basic sanitation services in the municipalities of Chapada Diamantina, drawing a comparison between the years 2006 and 2014, before and after the mentioned legal milestone. To do so, in addition to the literature on the subject, research was conducted in the DATASUS databases and spatial and statistical analysis tools such as QGIS and GeoDa were used. The results showed that, despite some progress in the coverage of water supply and solid waste collection services, the situation of basic sanitation in the region is extremely concerning, especially regarding sewage treatment. Municipalities with higher tourism activity stood out in both analyses. The results found emphasize the importance of discussions about public policies focused on population health and environmental quality in the region.

Sin embargo, la región siempre ha tenido un déficit en la co­bertura de saneamiento básico. Con el objetivo de ampliar estos servicios, el Gobierno Federal promulgó la Ley nº 11.445/2007. Considerando la importancia de este tema para el desarrollo sostenible de la región, este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar la distribución espacial del acceso a los servicios de saneamiento básico en los municipios de la Chapada Diamantina, trazando una comparación entre los años 2006 y 2014, antes y después de dicho marco legal. Para ello, además de la bibliografía sobre el tema, se utilizó la investigación en las bases de datos del DATASUS y herramientas de análisis espacial y estadístico como QGIS y GeoDa. Los resultados demostraron que, apesar de algunos avances en la cobertura de los servicios de abastecimiento de agua y recolección de residuos sólidos, la situación del saneamiento básico en la región es extremadamente preocupante, especialmente en lo que respecta al saneamiento. Los municipios con mayor actividad turística se destacaron en ambos análisis. Los resultados encontrados refuerzan la importancia de discusiones sobre políticas públicas dirigidas a la sa­lud de la población y la calidad ambiental en la región.A Chapada Diamantina se constitui em uma fronteira de expansão do agronegócio e do turismo na Bahia tendo sua dinâmica econômica dependente da disponibilidade e qualidade de seus recursos hídricos. Entretanto, a região se insere no contexto de déficit de cobertura do serviço de saneamento básico. Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar a distribuição espacial do acesso aos serviços saneamento básico nos municípios da Chapada Diamantina, traçando um comparativo entre os anos de 2006 e 2014, antes e depois da implantação da Lei do Saneamento Básico, de 2007. Utilizou-se pesquisa bibliográfica, documental e dados secundários do DATASUS, além de ferramentas de análise espacial e estatística como QGIS e GeoDa.
