“IS CHILDHOOD A THING, SUCH A THING?”: PROTECTION OF CHILDHOODS FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF THE CISHETEROPATRIARCHY

Abstract: in this article we assert that, as an age category, the childhoods have been hierarchically constructed, placed as a becoming that would justify their incapacity to project themselves into the world, given their supposed immaturity. In Brazil, that idea gains strategic relevance from the 2010s, when it was built the belief that children would be under serious threat because they would be exposed to gender debates, especially in educational spaces. From feminist and queer readings, our efforts turn to the policies promoted by the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights so that we can understand how conservative groups appropriate the rhetoric of protection with a view to protecting a cisheteropatriarchal project that privileges them. Movements of exhibition censorship, persecution of artists, movies and educators are part of that strategy which, according to them, aim at family preservation and at the fight against pedophilia.
