Resumo: In this article, I present a reflection on the dystopian possibilities of controlling the reproductive process and the oppression of women based on their bodies and their capacity to procreate, as depicted in the book The Handmaid 's Tale by canadian writer Margaret Atwood. Employing  discourse analysis as a theoretical-methodological tool, I draw a comparative analyses with the utopia vision of social transformation through childbirth advocated by the French physician Michel Odent. Through the text, I delve into the intertwined themes of both works, focusing on the pursuit of natural childbirth and the repercussions of environmental degradation. Furthermore, I examineAtwood's portrayal of a eugenic, oppressive and totalitarian white society, the exclusion of black people from Atwood’s work and the use of real events of violence against enslaved black women in the United States, which regretably lack proper references
