MEMORIES, LONGING AND THE COMFORT OF DEATH IN THE MESSAGES AND IMAGES OF THE MORTUARY SOUVENIRS

Resumo: One of the characteristics of post-mortems is mourning, and with it, the remem- brance of the loved one. Regardless of the way, family and friends seek to keep the memory of the deceased alive; one of them is distributing souvenirs in celebrations held on specifi c dates aft er the burial. Th is work aims to analyze how the messages and images that make up the mortuary souvenirs are produced and used as elements of evocation and maintenance of the memory of the dead. To carry out the research, we used twelve souvenirs, through which we identifi ed that their content is composed, among others, by the following ele- ments: religious message, message of comfort with a mixture of lamentation and longing, image of a saint, photograph of the dead, “album of family”, and personalized keyrings.

Independente da maneira, familiares e amigos buscam manter viva a memória do falecido; uma delas, é distribuindo lembrancinhas nas celebrações realizadas em datas específicas após o sepultamento. Este trabalho objetiva analisar como as mensagens e imagens que compõem as lembrancinhas mortuárias, são produzidas e utilizadas como elementos de evocação e manutenção da memória do morto.
