ABSTRACT This work presents the anthropological foundation of Aristotle's ethics based on the reading of Nicomachean Ethics' Book I in light of philosophy as a way of life. We analyze the relation between anthropology and ethics following Aristotle's arguments that ethics is a part of practical philosophy. We also investigate the nature of the human good and the anthropological aspects with which Aristotle introduces the ethical issues he develops in the rest of his Nicomachean Ethics, which is among the most important philosophical texts in the entire history of Western thought. In it we find the rigor with which Aristotle approaches the problem of morality. It is certainly not our goal to exhaust the discussion about the most translated treatise by the Stagirite. Our purpose is more modest: we seek to analyze the anthropological aspect of excellence. We take as a structural source the thesis of the historian of philosophy Pierre Hadot to analyze the question.
