Resumo: It is known that in Brazil historically there are candidates for elective positions that make recurrent mention of the name of God in their life curriculum. The purpose seems obvious: to promote their unblemished moral and religious dignity among potential voters. There are many sociological studies on the relationship between religion and political practice in Brazil. The present text follows this line of investigation, but with a new approach from the perspective of practical theology. An obvious assumption in our text is that, in the last general elections we had in Brazil in 2018, the explicit use and abuse of the name of God can be widely verified by many candidates, many of whom are elected. Such candidates assumed that they had an exclusive and religiously grounded message to the people who believe in God. We have tried to explore this use and abuse here since the specific example of the president-elect, retired captain of the Brazilian Army Jair M. Bolsonaro.

A finalidade parece evidente: promover sua ilibada dignidade moral e religiosa entre possíveis eleitores. Existem muitos estudos sociológicos sobre a relação entre religião e prática política no Brasil. O presente texto segue esta linha de investigação, mas com uma nova abordagem desde a perspectiva da teologia prática. Uma pressuposição evidente em nosso texto é que, nas últimas eleições gerais que tivemos no Brasil em 2018, se pode verificar amplamente o uso e abuso explícito do nome de Deus por muitos candidatos, boa parte deles eleitos. Tais candidatos assumiram que eles tinham uma mensagem exclusiva e religiosamente fundamentada ao povo que crê em Deus. Tentamos explorar aqui este uso e abuso desde o exemplo específico do presidente eleito, capitão reformado do Exército Brasileiro Jair M.
