NOTES ON SCHOOL RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

The Religious Education in Brazil has undergone many changes in recent decades. These changes mainly affect their objectives, curriculum and teacher training. This article aims to establish proposals and methodological critiques for this new model of the discipline, based on the contributions of the Pedagogy of Comenius. In order to achieve this goal, three textual topics have been developed. The first is dedicated to the biography of Comenius and its importance to the modern pedagogy. Next, we discuss the new Religious Education, its epistemological perspectives and teacher’s training. Finally, critical and methodological proposals are constructed for the content based on the principles presented in a chapter of the Didactical Magna, the author’s main book. The conclusion of this work is that, despite the time lapse, Comenius' work remains always current to guide and assist teachers in their practices.
