Resumo: Having as theoretical foundation the concepts of ethnogenesis and territorialization, and using documentary and bibliographic sources, this text aims to present a summary of the historical trajectory of the Pataxó people and their relationship with the colonial State, throughout the nineteenth century in the former Captaincy of Porto Seguro, (now the Extreme South of Bahia). Thus, it is intended to understand how the colonization process and the indigenist policy of compulsory settlement contributed to boosting interethnic contact relations, promoting ethnic reconfigurations that gave rise to the contemporary Pataxó identity, through the territorialization of the population in the vicinity of Monte Pascoal , where the former Aldeamento Belo Jardim was built, where the indigenous village of Barra Velha is located today.

Así, se pretende comprender cómo el proceso de colonización y la política indigenista de asentamiento forzoso contribuyeron a impulsar las relaciones de contacto interétnicas, promoviendo las reconfiguraciones étnicas que dieron origen a la identidad pataxó contemporánea, a través de la territorialización de la población en las cercanías de Monte Pascoal, donde se construyó el antiguo Aldeamento Belo Jardim, donde hoy se encuentra el pueblo indígena de Barra Velha.  Tendo como fundamento teórico os conceitos de etnogênese e territorialização, e utilizando de fontes documentais e bibliográficas, o presente texto tem como objetivo apresentar um resumo da trajetória histórica do povo Pataxó e sua relação com o Estado colonial, ao longo do século XIX    na antiga Capitania de Porto Seguro, (atual Extremo Sul da Bahia).
