Between exhausted worlds, enchanted territories and other-than-human beings: approaching different learning experiences with the Pataxó people

Resumo: Having as a backdrop the critique of Western humanism, especially from its notion of human exceptionality, this work succinctly presents an outline of the Pataxó ontology, constituted by a myriad of other-than-human beings and enchanted places, with the objective of highlighting that the indigenous reflection represents a divergent landmark from the conceptions that form an idea of the Western world as a culmination of historical evolution, with the notion of progress as a trump card to affirm the superiority of the West compared to so many other civilizations. Based on a set of interviews originating from ethnographic incursions, theoretical reflections and Pataxó conceptualizations are intertwined. The analysis points out that the Pataxó ontology constitutes a set of indigenous freedom practices, as well as a strong resource to legitimize belonging to their territories.

A partir de un conjunto de entrevistas provenientes de incursiones etnográficas, se entrelazan reflexiones teóricas y conceptualizaciones de Pataxó. El análisis señala que la ontología Pataxó constituye un conjunto de prácticas de libertad indígena, así como un fuerte recurso para legitimar la pertenencia a sus territorios.Tendo como pano de fundo a crítica ao humanismo ocidental, sobretudo a partir da sua noção de excepcionalidade humana, este artigo apresenta de forma sucinta um esboço da ontologia Pataxó, constituída por uma miríade de seres outros-que-humanos e lugares encantados, com o objetivo de evidenciar que a reflexão indígena representa um marco divergente das concepções que formam uma ideia do mundo ocidental como uma culminância da evolução histórica, tendo a noção de progresso como um trunfo para afirmar a superioridade do ocidente frente a tantas outras civilizações.  A partir de um conjunto de entrevistas oriundas de incursões etnográficas, entrelaçam-se reflexões teóricas e conceitualizações Pataxó.
