Resumo: | This article focuses on primary education in Brazil between 1930 and 1945. With the rise of Vargas to power in 1930, the Ministry of Education was created, and a series of reforms in Brazilian education was instituted between 1930 and 1945, starting an escalation of actions to combat illiteracy among the Brazilian people. However, despite attempts, primary education had national guidelines only in 1946, with the Organic Law of primary education. In this text, we seek to analyze the public policies that aimed to expand primary education and combat illiteracy, a requirement of the new productive bases that began to develop from 1930 onwards. Some classic authors who studied the period, seeking to make a critical and contextualized interpretation of the sources used. We found that primary education, which fought the illiteracy of the people, was not a priority, it was only in 1945/46 that concrete policies were implemented that made official collection and investment projects, as well as the organization of national curriculum guidelines for this stage of education. |

Com a ascensão de Vargas ao poder, em 1930, foi criado o Ministério da Educação e instituída uma série de reformas na educação brasileira entre 1930 e 1945, dando início a uma escalada de ações para combater o analfabetismo do povo brasileiro. Todavia, apesar de tentativas, o ensino primário contou com diretrizes nacionais somente em 1946, com a Lei Orgânica do ensino primário. Neste texto procuramos analisar as políticas públicas que visaram expandir o ensino primário e combater o analfabetismo, uma exigência das novas bases produtivas que passaram a se desenvolver a partir de 1930. Para tanto, analisamos um conjunto de fontes primárias, especialmente a legislação, bem como alguns autores clássicos que estudaram o período, procurando fazer uma interpretação crítica e contextualizada das fontes utilizadas.
