I BREATH: Experience and materialities of information on smart objects and digital platforms

Resumo: This paper explores the digital materialities of information from the experience of datafication of anxiety and breathing Monitoring using the Spire Stone wearable. We present a report of personal use of the aforementioned wearable and also a descriptive analysis of informational production trajectory realized on body-algorithms-wearable associations. We argue that the materialities of the information refer more to the chains of action and practical consequences produced during the monitoring experience, than to the essences of the wearable-platform – whether representational (soft) or material (hard) ones. We suggest the notion of experience in William James as a complementary approach to studies that choose to explore the digital materialities of information within the dynamic process of their own formation, avoiding perspectives centered on the technical specificity of smart objects or based only on the human perception of their use.

Presentamos el informe de uso personal del wearable y un análisis descriptivo de la trayectoria de la producción de información en la asociación cuerpo-algoritmos-wearable. Argumentamos que las materialidades de la información se refieren menos a las esencias representativas (soft) o materiales (hard) de lo vestible-plataforma, y más a las cadenas de acción y consecuencias prácticas producidas durante la experiencia de monitoreo. Sugerimos la noción de experiencia en William James como un enfoque complementario a los estudios que eligen explorar las materialidades digitales de la información en el proceso dinámico de su propia formación, evitando perspectivas centradas en la especificidad técnica de los objetos inteligentes o restringidas a la percepción humana de su uso.O artigo explora as materialidades digitais da informação a partir do percurso da experiência de dataficação da ansiedade e do monitoramento da respiração mediante uso do vestível Spire Stone. Apresentamos o relato de uso pessoal do wearable e uma análise descritiva da trajetória de produção informacional na associação corpo-algoritmos-vestível. Argumentamos que as materialidades da informação se referem menos às essências representacionais (soft) ou materiais (hard) do vestível-plataforma, e mais às cadeias de ação e às consequências práticas produzidas durante a experiência de monitoramento.
