Resumo: The text discusses the alignment of the visual codes in the nineteenth century portrait, especially in the carte de visite format, to a broader range of social codes that disciplines the presentation form of the image of public character. The initial assumption is the absence of laugh in the photographs of the collection as an authoritative element for the visual composition of the nineteenth-century portrait. The analysis corpus is photographs from the Francisco Rodrigues Collection, housed in Fundação Joaquim Nabuco in Recife. Thus, the goal is to understand, using the historiographical and iconographical approach, the interdependence and complementarity existing between the social environment and photography. This situation produces a contract among the photographer; the subject and pose as sensemaking strategy that will tout the self-image of the character and guide the staging protocols for the camera.

Toma como dato inicial la ausencia de la risa en las fotografías de la colección como un elemento impositivo para la composición visual del retrato ochocentista. Tiene como cuerpo de análisis las fotografías de la Colección Francisco Rodrigues, acogida por la Fundación Joaquim Nabuco, en Recife. De este modo, el objetivo es comprender, usando un abordaje historiográfico e iconográfico, la interdependencia y complementariedad que existe entre el entorno social y la fotografía. Tal situación produce un contrato entre el fotógrafo, el sujeto y la pose como articulación que irá a generar la autoimagen proyectada del sujeto y orientar los protocolos de escenificación de la cámara.O texto problematiza o alinhamento dos códigos visuais no retrato oitocentista, sobretudo no formato da carte de visite, a uma ordem mais ampla de códigos sociais que disciplinam a forma de apresentação da imagem pública do sujeito. Toma como dado inicial a ausência do riso nas fotografias da coleção como um elemento impositivo para a composição visual do retrato oitocentista. Tem como corpus de análise as fotografias da Coleção Francisco Rodrigues, abrigada na Fundação Joaquim Nabuco, em Recife. Destarte, o objetivo é compreender, usando a abordagem historiográfica e iconográfica, a interdependência e complementariedade existente entre o entorno social e a fotografia.
