Kitchen’s cinema, lake’s metaphor and fundamentals of Cao Guimarães’ creative process: For a filmmaker’s theory

Resumo: This paper aims to present a brief portrait of the artist and filmmaker Cao Guimarães, with data concerning the biography and creation process, and clarify concepts created by him and for us updated as “kitchen’s cinema” and the “lake’s metaphor”. From the analysis of his artistic career and understanding of the filmmaker on his own work, we introduced our perception of Cao Guimarães while “contemporary artist”, as the one who parts of the darkness of his time and realizes the camouflaged powers of language in the smallest details, materials with which will work to open them to a new possible use, to be shared with those who come into contact with the works. What imbues his work an eminently political character, by disabling the merely informative-communicational functions related to our senses and enable us to new ways of perceiving and feeling.

A partir del análisis de su trayectoria artística y de la comprensión que el cineasta tiene de su propia obra, presentamos nuestra percepción de Cao Guimarães como un “artista contemporáneo”, como aquel que parte de las potencias del lenguaje camufladas en los más pequeños detalles, materiales con los que va a trabajar para abrirlas a un nuevo uso posible, a nuevas formas de percibir y sentir, para ser compartidas con quienes entran en contacto con las obras. Lo que dota a su obra de un carácter eminentemente político, inhabilitando las funciones meramente informativo-comunicacionales relacionadas con nuestros sentidos y permitiéndonos nuevas formas de percibir y sentir.Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar um breve retrato do artista e cineasta Cao Guimarães, com dados sobre sua biografia e processo de criação, além de esclarecer conceitos criados por ele e por nós atualizados como “cinema de cozinha” e “metáfora do lago”. A partir da análise de sua trajetória artística e da compreensão do cineasta sobre seu próprio trabalho, apresentamos nossa percepção de Cao Guimarães enquanto “artista contemporâneo”, como aquele que parte das potências de linguagem camufladas nos detalhes mais ínfimos, materiais com os quais irá trabalhar para abri-los a um novo possível uso, a novos modos de perceber e sentir, a serem partilhados com aqueles que entram em contato com as obras.
