Resumo: The present article discusses the transformations in the modes of listening, as well as music distribution within the context of cyberculture. Along with the fact that listening has been increasingly mediated by highly sophisticated technologies of sound, the radical immateriality of digital media must be acknowledged. The extreme malleability of the digital sound favors the fading of contours betweencopy and original, author and editor, consumer and distributor. The proliferation of sites of free distribution of music in the Internet has also been challenging thecommercial format of music listening. As independent production and distribution become more professional, minority consumer niches meet their possible economicviability in the web.

Somada à escuta crescentemente mediada por sofisticadas tecnologias do som, temos a radical imaterialidade dos meios digitais. A extrema maleabilidade do som digital favorece a diluição de fronteiras entre cópia e original, autor e editor, receptor e distribuidor. A disseminação de sites de distribui- ção gratuita de música na Internet vem ainda desafiando sobremaneira a formatação comercial da escuta.
