Resumo: This article presents the results of a study aimed at analyzing how journalists from traditional television stations and the internet perceive the profession today, especially in relation to the social and educational role of journalism and the behaviors required of the professional. Interviews were conducted with 24 journalists from traditional TV stations and the internet located in the State of Minas Gerais. The data obtained reveal converging perceptions among the interviewed professionals. In other words, even though the internet is a new space and apparently less concerned with rules, the essence of journalism is perceived in a similar way by traditional TV and internet professionals. Essence recurrently remembered in interviews with expressions such as “professional pride”, “credibility”, and “truth”. As for its contribution, this study represents a step forward by comparing data and perceptions about the work of journalists from traditional TV stations and the internet. About the latter, in particular, there are few discussions in the literature on the subject.
