Resumo: | This paper tries to make a brief survey of some incursions of the fictional universe of H. P. Lovecraft in cinema. Creator of a teratological pantheon, varied profane objects and a pessimistic philosophical perspective pointing to the insignificance of the human before a terrifying cosmos, the writer ends up becoming a broad material for film appropriations. While a massive use of lovecraftian elements is gaining larger contours in films with good reviews and box office, the transpositions of the author’s narratives seem to inhabit a more specific niche of films, especially in a scope considered more trash of the audiovisual. Through the study of some authors and some more well-known and emblematic examples, we will demonstrate this strange paradox and we will try to test some possible hypotheses. |

P. Lovecraft en el cine. Creador de un panteón teratológico, diversos objetos profanos y una perspectiva filosófica pesimista que apunta a la insignificancia de lo humano frente a un cosmos aterrador, el escritor acaba convirtiéndose en amplio material de apropiaciones cinematográficas. Si bien un uso masivo de elementos lovecraftianos ha ganado contornos cada vez mayores en películas con buenas críticas y taquilla, las transposiciones de las narrativas del autor parecen habitar un nicho más específico de las películas, especialmente en un contexto considerado más vulgar en el sector audiovisual. A través del estudio de algunos autores y algunos ejemplos más emblemáticos y conocidos, demostraremos esta extraña paradoja e intentaremos probar algunas hipótesis posibles.O presente trabalho procura fazer um breve levantamento de algumas incursões do universo ficcional de H. P. Lovecraft no cinema. Criador de um panteão teratológico, objetos profanos variados e uma perspectiva filosófica pessimista apontando para a insignificância do humano diante de um cosmos aterrador, o escritor acaba se tornando um amplo material para apropriações cinematográficas. Enquanto uma massiva utilização de elementos lovecraftianos ganham contornos cada vez maiores em filmes com boas críticas e bilheterias, as transposições das narrativas do autor parecem habitar um nicho mais específico de filmes, sobretudo em um âmbito considerado mais trash do audiovisual.
