Resumo: | The American horror and science fiction writer H. P. Lovecraft (1890-1937) was first published in Brazil in the 1960s. In the following decade, Brazilian cinema would appropriate his work for the first time, albeit timidly. In the new millennium, particularly in the 2010s, Lovecraft reached the peak of his popularity in the country, with many independent filmmakers appropriating his work. Based on this important cultural phenomenon, in this paper we will address such adaptations and the appropriations in Brazilian culture, as well as the allusions to Lovecraft’s stories in these films. |
