Resumo: The objective of this article is to show the way that society changes produced by capitalism accumulation are reflecting today in the work market of the social worker. To compound this analysis we started from the reflection basis that deals with society changes and the capital’s crisis in the international context and the repercussions that occur in Brazilian society as well in the labor market for social workers with the creation of LOAS – Social Assistance Organic Law. The conclusions evaluate that there was absorption of social workers in the labor market, however it does not mean that there was a reduction in the unemployment rates as well an improvement in the labor conditions. Social work.O objetivo deste artigo é demonstrar de que forma as transformações societárias produzidas pela forma de acumulação capitalista, estão refletindo hoje no mercado de trabalho do assistente social no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Para compor esta análise partimos do eixo de reflexão que trata das transformações societárias e a crise do capital no contexto internacional e como ocorrem tais repercussões na sociedade brasileira e conseqüentemente seus desdobramentos no mercado de trabalho do assistente social com a criação da LOAS – Lei Orgânica da Assistência Social. As conclusões avaliam que houve uma absorção do mercado pelo profissional de Serviço Social, no entanto isto não significa que houve redução das taxas de desemprego e tão pouco uma melhora nas condições de trabalho.
