Crops of silences: An analysis of Ana and André in the works by Raduan Nassar and Luiz Fernando Carvalho

Resumo: This article aims at discussing the materialization and effects of silence in Raduan Nassar’s Lavoura arcaica (1975), and in Luiz Fernando Carvalho’s film, entitled LavourArcaica (2001). Our focus is the configuration of the characters Ana and André: their subaltern insertion in the family, their incestuous connection, the resulting feeling of guilt and how psychoanalysis conceives silence. Since the investigation is interdisciplinary, encompassing literature, cinema and psychoanalysis, we have searched for theoretical principles that articulate the three areas of study, so as to reveal how silence gets materialized in two distinct semiotic languages.

Tomamos como recorte a configuração das personagens Ana e André: sua inserção subalterna na família, sua ligação incestuosa, a culpa daí decorrente e como a psicanálise concebe o silêncio.
