Resumo: This paper discusses the sources of the against Partido dos Trabalhadores’s discourse (antipetista’s discourse) as a reaction to the political and social hegemony of this party discursive articulation on the Porto Alegre’s society during 1994. This reaction paradoxically enabled the beginning of polarized scenario (antagonism) in a society characterized by social heterogeneity. The research is based on the analysis of political reports and opinions related to this 1994 election. The information was collected from the two main Porto Alegre’s newspapers between September and November of 1994. Reação que paradoxalmente promoveu o surgimento de um cenário de polarização política (de antagonismo) numa metrópole, cuja sociedade era caracterizada pela heterogeneidade social.
