AUSTERITY POLICIES IN OLD PATRIOTIC CLOTHES: ideologization in the Bolsonaro era

Resumo: The article aims to analyze the political and economic context in Brazil starting from 2016, focusing on the rise of Jair Bolsonaro. More specifically, we intend to analyze the relationship between austerity policies and the far-right ideology, using the notion of ideology as a theoretical category. Our hypothesis is that patriotic and anti-Worker’s Party discourse would have a twofold aspect: that of mystifying the antipopular aspects of austerity measures, on the one hand, and, on the other, of politicizing austerity measures, strengthening certain ideological polarizations involving themes such as meritocracy, corruption, State, nation and the "reds". Thus, the conceptualization of ideology plays an important role in grounding its double aspect of mystification and proposition of meaning.

Más específicamente, pretendemos analizar la relación entre las políticas de austeridad y la ideología de extrema derecha, utilizando la noción de ideología como categoría teórica. Como hipótesis, el discurso patriótico y antipetista tendría un doble aspecto: mistificar los aspectos antipopulares de las medidas de austeridad, por un lado, y por otro, politizar las propuestas de austeridad, potenciar ciertos sesgos ideológicos que involucran temas como la meritocracia, la corrupción, Estado, nación y "rojos". La conceptualización de la ideología, por lo tanto, juega un papel importante en la base de su doble aspecto de mistificación y proposición de significado.O artigo tem como objetivo uma análise do contexto político e econômico verificado no Brasil a partir de 2016, tendo como foco a ascensão de Jair Bolsonaro. Mais especificamente, pretendemos analisar a relação entre as políticas de austeridade e a ideologia da extrema-direita, para tanto, utilizamos a noção de ideologia como categoria teórica. Como hipótese, o discurso patriótico e antipetista teria um duplo aspecto: o de mistificar os aspectos antipopulares das medidas de austeridade, por um lado, e o de politizar as propostas de austeridade, potencializando certas polarizações ideológicas que envolvem temas como meritocracia, corrupção, Estado, nação e “vermelhos”, por outro.
