Ethnographies on the move: Moving with children through the city

Resumo: The article seeks to reflect on the methodological aspects of research conducted with children in cities. It elects ethnographies on the move as a motto, revealing the virtues and pitfalls when the focus of the research is on the circulation and displacement of children. It argues for some powerful research techniques for the case of itinerant research with children. In ethnographies on the move, participant observation and floating observation are considered complementary, as are the categories of looking/seeing and listening/hearing. Movement can be analyzed through a direct or indirect experience of the researcher. Representations expressed through drawings and photographs are useful for exploring children’s movement. The methods analyzed here are not classified as mobile because they serve to collect data on movement only, but because they also allow for data collection on movement and apprehend mobilities in their various manifestations.

Elige como lema las etnografías en movimiento, revelando las virtudes y los escollos cuando la investigación se centra en la circulación y en el desplazamiento de los/as niños(as). Argumenta a favor de algunas poderosas técnicas de investigación para el caso de la investigación itinerante con niños(as). En las etnografías en movimiento, la observación participante y la observación flotante se consideran complementarias, al igual que las categorías mirar/ver y escuchar/oír. El movimiento puede analizarse a través de la experiencia directa o indirecta de la investigadora. Las representaciones expresadas mediante dibujos y fotografías son útiles para explorar el movimiento de los/as niños(as). Los métodos analizados aquí no se clasifi can como móviles porque sirvan para recoger datos sobre el movimiento únicamente, sino porque también permiten recoger datos en movimiento y aprehender las movilidades en sus diversas manifestaciones.O artigo busca refletir sobre os aspectos metodológicos de pesquisas realizadas com crianças nas cidades. Elege as etnografias em movimento como mote, revelando as virtudes e os percalços quando o foco da pesquisa está na circulação e no deslocamento de crianças. Argumenta em favor de algumas técnicas de pesquisa potentes para o caso de pesquisas itinerantes com crianças. Nas etnografias em movimento, a observação participante e a observação flutuante são consideradas complementares, assim como as categorias olhar/ver e escutar/ouvir. O movimento pode ser analisado por meio de uma experiência direta ou indireta da pesquisadora. As representações expressas por meio de desenhos e fotografi as mostram-se úteis para explorar os deslocamentos das crianças.
