On repopulating narratives:: The work of digital influencers from a socio-technical approach

Resumo: The present study aimed to elaborate a narrative review of the literature on digital influencers and to suggest an analysis inspired by the field of Science and Technology Studies. The thematic literature maintains the explanatory axis of research centered on the figure of the influencer as a producer of action and a user of digital technologies. However, I argue it is possible to perceive the construction of influence on digital platforms as an effect of a vast network of heterogeneous elements and not of just one or more subjects. I propose the work of influencers is only possible when this sociotechnical network is mobilized in such a way that it would be interesting from an analytical point to describe it. The advantages of this approach would be to find answers about how these connections happen and to point to other ways of understanding the associations between subjects and technical mediations.

La literatura temática mantiene el eje explicativo de la investigación centrada en la figura del influencer como productor de acción y usuario de tecnologías digitales. Sin embargo, sostengo que es posible percibir la construcción de influencia en plataformas digitales como un efecto de una vasta red de elementos heterogéneos y no solo uno o más sujetos. Propongo que el trabajo de los influencers solo es posible cuando esta red socio-técnica se activa de tal manera que sería interesante desde un punto de vista analítico describirla. Las ventajas de este enfoque serían encontrar respuestas sobre cómo ocurren estas articulaciones y señalar otras formas de entender las asociaciones entre sujetos y mediaciones técnicas.O presente estudo objetivou elaborar uma revisão narrativa da literatura sobre influenciadores digitais e sugerir uma análise inspirada no campo de Science and Technology Studies. A literatura temática mantém o eixo explicativo das pesquisas centrado na figura do influenciador enquanto produtor da ação e usuário das tecnologias digitais. No entanto, argumento que é possível perceber a construção de influência nas plataformas digitais enquanto efeito de uma vasta rede de elementos heterogêneos e não apenas de um ou mais sujeitos. Proponho que o trabalho dos influenciadores só é possível quando essa rede sociotécnica é acionada de modo que seria interessante do ponto de vista analítico descrevê-la.
