Resumo: Considering that teacher cognitions are determinant in human development, since they exert a strong influence in the way they characterize the phenomena and consequently guide the behaviors and their practices, this research aimed to know the cognitions and practices of teachers who work in the public and private education network in the city of Santarém-Pará regarding the social skills construct. The research was carried out with 10 teachers, 5 being of the public network and 5 of the private network acting in basic education. The data collected in the interviews were analyzed through the technique of the Discourse of the Collective Subject - DCS. The results showed teachers relate their cognitions about Social Skills as necessary for the integral development of the learner. It is also highlighted the need for new research in the area, focusing on intervention or social skills training for this public.

La investigación fue realizada con 10 profesores, siendo 5 de la red pública y 5 de la red privada actuantes en la educación básica. Los datos recogidos en las entrevistas, fueron analizados a través de la técnica del Discurso del Sujeto Colectivo - DSC. Los resultados mostraron que los profesores relacionan sus cogniciones sobre Habilidades Sociales como necesarias para el desarrollo integral del educando. Se pone de manifiesto la necesidad de nuevas investigaciones en el área, con foco en intervención o entrenamientos de habilidades sociales para este público.Considerando que as cognições docentes são determinantes no desenvolvimento humano, uma vez que exercem forte influência na maneira como caracterizam os fenômenos e, consequentemente, guiam os comportamentos e suas práticas, esta pesquisa objetivou conhecer as cognições e as práticas de professores que atuam na rede pública e privada de ensino na cidade de Santarém-Pará, acerca do construto habilidades sociais. A pesquisa foi realizada com 10 professores, sendo cinco da rede pública e cinco da rede particular atuantes na educação básica. Os dados coletados nas entrevistas foram analisados através da técnica do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo (DSC). Os resultados mostraram que os professores relacionam suas cognições sobre Habilidades Sociais como necessárias para o desenvolvimento integral do educando.
