Resumo:  This article presents considerations about the aspects which comprehend the management of distance undergraduation. It presents a bibliographic study that shows characteristics and factors considered in the management of distance learning courses in Brazilian universities and the evasion (dropout) phenomenon in this context. Retention of students and ways of accessing this studying modality have been a great challenge for researchers and managers of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The article discusses important dimensions to be considered in the management of courses, aiming to face evasion in undergraduate online courses, one of the phenomena that most affects, concerns and challenges this teaching modality. It concludes with the importance of affective communication between students, teachers and tutors.

Apresenta um estudo bibliográfico que mostra características e fatores envolvidos na gestão de cursos a distância em universidades brasileiras e o fenômeno da evasão, neste contexto. As formas de acesso e permanência dos alunos em cursos desta modalidade têm-se mostrado um grande desafio para os pesquisadores e gestores das Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES). O artigo discute dimensões importantes a considerar na gestão dos cursos, quando se busca enfrentar a evasão universitária em cursos on-line, um dos fenômenos que mais atinge, preocupa e desafia essa modalidade de ensino. Conclui pela relevância da comunicação afetiva entre estudantes, professores e tutores.
