Trump and Bolsonaro: Neo-Fascists Expressions of a Failed Attempt to Redefine Brazil-US Asymmetrical Relations

Resumo: | This paper aims to investigate the rise of Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro and the relationship between the United States of America (US) and Brazil under the governance of these leaders. The underlying research articulates historical processes, concepts, discourses, and quantitative and qualitative data to understand the rise of Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro in the crisis of global capitalism and the liberal order, which shaped neoliberalism with moral presuppositions and authoritarianism. In conclusion, this article argues that the rise of Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro is the result of this global context of crisis interspersed with the nuances of the US, Latin America, and Brazil. Therefore, as such, it exhibits non-identical similarities and affinities. However, it does not make US-Brazilian relations any less asymmetrical — quite the opposite. |

UU.) y Brasil bajo el gobierno de estos líderes. La investigación subyacente articula procesos históricos, conceptos, discursos y datos cuantitativos y cualitativos para comprender el ascenso de Donald Trump y Jair Bolsonaro en la crisis del capitalismo global y de la orden liberal, que modelaron el neoliberalismo con presupuestos morales y autoritarismo. En conclusión, este artículo argumenta que el ascenso de Donald Trump y Jair Bolsonaro es el resultado de este contexto global de crisis intercalado con los matices de EE. UU., América Latina y Brasil. Por lo tanto, como tal, exhibe similitudes y afinidades no idénticas. Sin embargo, no hace que las relaciones entre Estados Unidos y Brasil sean menos asimétricas - sino lo contrario.Este artigo tem por objetivo investigar a ascensão de Donald Trump e Jair Bolsonaro e a relação entre Estados Unidos da América (EUA) e Brasil sob a governança desses líderes. Através do método de articulação de processos históricos, conceitos, discursos e dados quantitativos e qualitativos, a pesquisa subjacente buscou compreender a ascensão de Donald Trump e Jair Bolsonaro no contexto de crise do capitalismo global e da ordem liberal, que conformou e reconfigurou o neoliberalismo combinado com pressupostos morais e com o autoritarismo. Como resultado, este artigo sustenta que a ascensão de Donald Trump e Jair Bolsonaro é fruto deste contexto global de crise entremeado pelas nuances conjunturais dos EUA, da América Latina e do Brasil. Portanto, como tal, apresentam similitudes não idênticas e afinidades. Entretanto, isso não tornou as relações entre EUA e Brasil menos assimétricas.
