Resumo: The year 2022 is making the 200th anniversary of Brazil’s independence. In this regard, many analyses have been made on this historical process, as well as reflections on the difficulties faced by the future Nation-State: a monarchy in an America of republics. Therefore, it is important to observe the vision that was built and perpetuated in the Portuguese school historiography, because, as Justino Magalhães points out: “the schoolbook is the main organizer of the school culture, memory and action”, as well as the “main support of school culture and product of a dialectic between discourse and episteme” (2006, p. 5). The present text aims to reflect a certain hegemonic image of the Brazilian independence process present in the Lusitanian textbooks, through an analytical methodology and a document exegesis based on the reading of sixteen textbooks (and fifteen others). The selection was made according to the popularity of their authors, their widespread use throughout the Portuguese school education, as well as those which are most adopted by schools (this after the end of the “one book” of the dictatorship). The chronology will comprise two periods: the Military Dictatorship and the New State (1926-1974) and from April 25th until the present day, trying to observe continuities and ruptures, convergences, and divergences, internal and external.

Editora da PUCRS - ediPUCRS2022-11-17info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/index.php/iberoamericana/article/view/4198310.15448/1980-864X.2022.1.41983Estudos Ibero-Americanos; Vol. 48 No. 1 (2022): Single Volume; e41983Estudos Ibero-Americanos; Vol. 48 Núm. 1 (2022): Volumen Único; e41983Estudos Ibero-Americanos; v. 48 n. 1 (2022): Volume Único; e419831980-864X0101-406410.15448/1980-864X.2022.1reponame:Estudos Ibero-Americanosinstname:Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS)instacron:PUC_RSporhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/index.php/iberoamericana/article/view/41983/27780Copyright (c) 2022 Sérgio Neto, Clara Isabel Serrano, Sarah Luna de Oliveirahttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessNeto, SérgioSerrano, Clara IsabelOliveira, Sarah Luna de2022-12-05T14:11:12Zoai:ojs.revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br:article/41983Revistahttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/index.php/iberoamericanaPRIhttps://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/index.php/iberoamericana/oaieditora.periodicos@pucrs.br||eia@pucrs.br1980-864X0101-4064opendoar:2022-12-05T14:11:12Estudos Ibero-Americanos - Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS)false
