Resumo: The objective of the present investigation was to analyze José Martí’s concern with the transmission of knowledge, doings and values that should be part of women’s education. The article analyzes the writing directed to the “children of America” in La edad de Oro (1889) and seeks to identify in the Martian project of formation of the “new man” the distinction between an education for boys and girls. But it will be in the collection formed by the set of personal letters addressed to Maria Mantilla and in the advice directed to the daughter that shows Martí as a father concerned with the proper social and educational formation of middle class or elite women and the role that it should play in nineteenth century society.

Este articulo analiza la escritura direccionada a los niños de América en La edad de Oro (1889) y se preocupa por identificar en el proyecto martiano de formación del nuevo hombre la distinción entre una educación para niños y otra para niñas. Pero será en el archivo formado por el conjunto de cartas personales dirigidos a Maria Mantilla y en los consejos a la hija que José Martí se revela como un padre preocupado con la formación de las mujeres pertenecientes a la clase media o de la alta esfera socioeconómica y el papel que estas deberían desempeñar en la sociedad decimonónica.O objetivo da presente investigação foi o de analisar a preocupação de José Martí com a transmissão de saberes, fazeres e valores que deveriam fazer parte da formação feminina. O artigo analisa a escrita direcionada às “crianças de América” em La edad de Oro (1889) e busca identificar no projeto martiano de formação do “novo homem” a distinção entre uma educação para meninos e meninas.
