Updatism: Pandemic and historicities in the neverending 2020

Resumo: In this essay we try to demonstrate that the present and the future are also history and must be dimensions of historiography. For that, we return to episodes from our book Almanac da COVID-19 and some of our readings of key moments of this year in order to reflect on what we have called updatist historicity. In some moments we use the retrospective as a tool, in others we choose to maintain the anachronistic effect of certain passages in order to highlight the contingent aspect of all representation of time. We divided the text into three main parts. The first presents the most recent shifts in the hypothesis about an updatist historicity. In the second, we gathered some episodes from 2020 as a way to elucidate what we are calling updatism in its relations with politics and history and, finally, we point out preliminary paths for action with counter-updatist effects.

Retomamos algunos episodios de nuestro libro Almanaque da COVID 19 y algunas de nuestras lecturas de momentos clave del año para reflexionar sobre la historicidad actualista de 2020. En algunos momentos utilizamos la retrospectiva, en otros optamos por mantener el efecto anacrónico de algunos pasajes para resaltar el aspecto contingente de toda relación con el tiempo. Dividimos el texto en tres partes principales, en la primera presentamos los cambios más recientes en la hipótesis sobre una historicidad actualista, en la segunda reunimos algunos episodios de 2020 como una forma de dilucidar mejor lo que llamamos actualismo en sus relaciones con la política y la historia, finalmente, en la última parte tratamos de señalar algunos caminos preliminares de una acción con efectos anti-actualista.Neste ensaio tentamos demonstrar que o presente e o futuro também são história e devem ser dimensões da historiografia. Para isso, retomamos episódios de nosso livro Almanaque da COVID-19 e algumas de nossas leituras de momentos-chave do ano a fim de refletir sobre o que temos chamado historicidade atualista. Em alguns momentos, lançamos mão da retrospectiva, em outros, optamos por manter o efeito anacrônico de certas passagens a fim de evidenciar o aspecto contingente de toda representação do tempo. Dividimos o texto em três partes principais. Na primeira, apresentamos os deslocamentos mais recentes na hipótese sobre uma historicidade atualista. Na segunda, reunimos alguns episódios de 2020 como modo demonstrar o que estamos chamando atualismo em suas relações com a política e a história.
