Brazilian corporate unionism in a perspective of John D. French, Florestan Fernandes e Raymundo Faoro

Resumo: | The historical development of Brazilian trade unionism in the 20th century brings a relevant peculiarity and that was its formatting along the lines of corporatism, influenced by fascists ideologies from de Revolution of 1930onwards and with the assumption to the power of Getulio Vargas. It was with the consolidation of this model of unionism, strongly linked to the State, and to this submissive, that the North American professor John D. French, a union behavioral model was gradually developed which was called “corporate consensus” and which marked out a standard of action for the main unions elites for a period of more than 50 years. In this article, we seek to analyze the impacts of this standard of action on the construction of the Brazilian trade union movement, comparing the approach of John D. French with the solid sociological vision of this historical period by Florestan Fernandes, as well as the perspective brought by a “Bureaucratic Stratum”, as a characteristic of the construction of Brazilian State. |

Foi com a consolidação desse modelo de sindicalismo, fortemente atrelado ao Estado e submisso a ele que, segundo o professor norte-americano John D. French, paulatinamente se desenvolveu um modelo comportamental sindical denominado como “consenso corporativo” Esse padrão orientou a atuação das principais elites sindicais por um período de mais de 50 anos. Neste artigo buscamos analisar os impactos desse padrão de atuação na construção do movimento sindical brasileiro, comparando a abordagem de John D.
