An analysis of the relationship between abusive supervision, emotional exhaustion and the organization’s intention to abandonment

Resumo: This research aimed to analyze the relationship between abusive supervision, the emotional exhaustion of the worker and the intention to leave the organization. Data collection was carried out through an online questionnaire applied to workers living in the cities of Ouro Preto and Mariana, both of Minas Gerais. The survey sample included 326 respondents and the data collected were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. Examining the results, it was confirmed that abusive supervision leads to emotional exhaustion and intention to leave the organization. Furthermore, it was found that emotional exhaustion amplifies the employee’s intention to leave the organization.

La recopilación de datos se realizó mediante un cuestionario en línea dirigido a los trabajadores de las ciudades mineras de Ouro Preto y Mariana. La muestra del estudio consistió en 326 encuestados y los datos fueron analizados por el Modelo de Ecuaciones Estructurales. Al examinar los resultados, se confirmó que la supervisión abusiva conduce al agotamiento emocional y la intención de abandonar la organización. Además, se concluyó que el agotamiento emocional amplifica la intención del empleado de abandonar la organización.Esta pesquisa objetivou analisar a relação entre a supervisão abusiva, a exaustão emocional do trabalhador e a intenção de abandono da organização. A coleta dos dados foi realizada por meio de um questionário online direcionado aos trabalhadores das cidades mineiras de Ouro Preto e Mariana. A amostra da pesquisa contou com 326 respondentes e os dados coletados foram analisados por meio da Modelagem de Equações Estruturais. Examinando os resultados, confirmou-se que a supervisão abusiva leva à exaustão emocional e à intenção de abandono da organização.
