Resumo: This text, which systematizes an ethnographic observation, refers to traditions of popular religiosity in the Paraíba Community Matias highlighting narratives of some local characters of Afrodescendant origin. The premise of the approach suggests that religious rituals re-signify the senses of the sacred, and these are reconstructed and re-socialized in both rural and urban settings. However, in rural areas, orality and interpersonal communication, linked to traditions and devotions, continue to be effective in preserving beliefs and devotions that nurture popular Catholicism between generations.

A premissa da abordagem sugere que os rituais religiosos ressignificam os sentidos do sagrado e esses são reconstruídos e ressocializados tanto nos espaços rurais quanto nos urbanos.
