This is a study about the old age, epistemologically supported by the ways of thinking of Carl G.Jung (1971; 1988; 2000), Michel Foucault (2006) and Hannah Arendt (2008; 2014). These authors highlight the historical, political and cultural breaks that determine the contemporary scene, since the early twentieth century. Within this context, old people, like so many of us, find themselves overwhelmed by ideological demands, from the family to the media, towards achieving an existential status that is typical of young people (Hillman, 2001; Costa, 2004; Mucida, 2004; Debert, 2004; Teixeira, 2009). In an attempt to transcend such ideological limitations, upon possible meanings elaborated by old people, this study presents a series of old and notable characters: actors, writers, musicians and academics. The life of these old men and women reverberate as exemplary references of Jung's (1971) reflections, with his mountain parable, an image that he created to understand and know the aging processes and death. On the other hand, throughout the world, there are certainly thousands or even millions of helpless old people, unware to one of the central ideas of this work, the "self-care" (Foucault, 2006). The research that guides the study consists on the coexistence of the researcher with fifteen old women within a Long Term Care Facility (LTCF). About forty living workshops were held during the period of sixteen months, of which eleven were selected for analysis. Among other complications, mostly of the old women suffered from a variety of dementias, and were severely restricted inside the institution (Souza, 2003; Goldfarb, 2004; Mucida, 2009). The previous experience of the author on the universe of old people was crucial during this research, and resulted that the old women became co-authors of a collective experience, along with their families, employees, caregivers and volunteers. The knowledge that derives from this experience proved to be invaluable and did broaden and deepen the professional action of the researcher, starting with the internship with a scholarship at the University of Aveiro (Portugal), from March to June 2014
