This is a research that proposes to analyze the challenges to the right to self-determination of peoples in the 21st century. on the international scene. With this recognition, despite the right to self-determination gaining notoriety, its concept was still very vague and indeterminate. Therefore, it became necessary to understand what would be considered the self-determination of peoples, to whom it would apply and what would be the extent of its application, but mainly if the self-determination of peoples would include the right to secession or not. With this right, a people could form their own state, but the big question is whether the unbridled adoption of this right will destabilize the world order. Therefore, we analyze the Kurdish issue to find out whether or not this people would have the right to secede, since the Kurdish people, in addition to being considered the largest people without a country of their own, suffer systematic violations of their human rights and persecution in order to inhibit the Kurdish identity. As a result, we conclude that the Kurdish people would, in theory, have the right to secede, but that the option of establishing autonomous regions in areas inhabited by Kurds may be the most viable. However, it is not up to us to decide for the Kurdish people, only themselves can choose, otherwise there will not be self-determination, but hetero-determination
