This essay aims to draw attention to the dis(advances) of the International Agenda to Combat Child Labor and the challenges for the elimination of the exploitation of children and adolescents from the international approach on the Worst Forms of Child Labor. With this, it is intended to contribute to the evolution of the debate on child labor and the (re)formulation of global, regional or local policies for prevention or combat that are more inclusive, efficient and connected with the challenges of developing countries like Brazil. Therefore, it starts from an overview of contemporary child labor, with current data and discussed concepts to bring the reader closer to the universe studied. It then presents the formation of the pillars of the current global governance structure for combating child labor, as a guiding thread for the debate’s evolution over the last hundred years, so that it is possible to understand precedents and advances that culminate with what we have (or that is missing) currently in the Global Agenda to Combat Child Labour. With this, it is intended to explore aspects of local-global relations that show a tension observed for the fulfillment of Convention 182 – ILO (international instrument on the Prohibition of the Worst Forms of Child Labor, which in 2020 reached universal ratification), and target 8.7 of the SDGs regarding the elimination of child labor by 2025. In this context, it proposes a reflection on the theory and reality of the Worst Forms of Child Labor, based on the example of Brazil
