The phenomenon of femicide will be analyzed from the perspective of psychoanalysis, based on the concepts of desire and drive, as developed by Freud, and of symbolic, as developed by Lacan, with the objective of finding possible explanations for violence against women. The study starts from the hypothesis that the violent behavior of individuals who commit this type of crime has its cause rooted in psychological mechanisms and unconscious movements based on the way the subject relates himself to cultural aspects of patriarchy as a symbolic scheme that shapes intersubjective relationships. By placing violence in the position of a symptom and understanding the historical process of male domination, the sign of love is placed at the center of the discussion as a justification for the committed crime, at the same time that it presents itself as a paradox in the limit between the affections of love and hate. The study seeks to shows that violent behavior is a way that the subject finds to deal with the power structure of patriarchal society when he feels the threat of losing his position of material and symbolic domination. Femicide, then, can be understood as a consequence of a structure that places women in the position of an object through which men will try to reestablish their lost position of power. Analyzing real situations and fictional narratives, it is possible to observe this movement of trying to regain control, though under a discourse that depicts violence as a form of love. Consequently, gender violence will show itself as a desperate act of a subject whose psychic order does not include other ways and strategies of dealing with the frustration that imposes itself on the real. However, psychoanalysis offers alternatives and shows that there are other forms by which the subject can transform his suffering, other than through aggression and gender violence
