Resumo: Homer’s Odyssey tells the story of Odysseus’ troublesome journey back to Ithaca, following the end of the Trojan War. This epic poem, written roughly 2700 years ago, continues to this day to be an extremely influential work, as a synonymous for a long and dangerous hero’s journey, with several of its passages, such as the Cyclops, the Trojan Horse and Penelope’s shroud now belonging to Western mythical culture. According to analytical psychology, myths contain a archetypical symbols, namely, they contain primordial symbols common to all humanity. This thesis’ goal is to suggest that Homer’s work is a metaphor of Jung’s individuation process, drawing comparisons between Odysseus’ myth and the different stages of this process. In order to achieve this, a symbolic reading of the poem was made, using Jung and other jungian authors as theoretical background. It is established that the beginning of the journey – when Odysseus is cut off from the rest of the Achean heroes – marks the beginning of the individuation process; his relationships with the opposite sex represent the confrontation with the anima; the help he receives from Hermes and his descent to Hades signify the encounter with the Self; Odysseus’ men, his feud with Poseidon and Polyphemus correspond to the shadow’s integration; and when he washed up on the Phaecian cost naked, alone and without any riches, it represents the breakdown of the persona. From these parallels, it is argued that the hero’s extensive individuation process is a result of his own choices and a need to integrate his inferior psychological function, the feeling

Este poema épico, escrito aproximadamente 2700 anos atrás, continua sendo até hoje uma obra muito significativa, como sinônimo de uma longa e perigosa jornada de um herói, com várias de suas passagens, como a do Ciclope, a do Cavalo de Troia e a do tear de Penélope pertencendo à cultura mítica ocidental. Para a psicologia analítica, os mitos são uma representação simbólica de arquétipos, isto é, o mito expressa conteúdos comuns a toda a humanidade. O objetivo desta dissertação é sugerir que a obra de Homero é uma metáfora do processo de individuação proposto por Jung, estabelecendo paralelos entre o mito de Odisseu e as diferentes fases deste processo. Para atingir estes objetivos, foi feita uma leitura simbólica do poema, apoiando-se em Jung e outros autores junguianos no referencial teórico. Na análise, estabelece-se que o início da jornada – quando Odisseu se separa dos demais heróis aqueus – pode marcar o início do processo de individuação; as personagens femininas com quem o herói se relaciona podem representar o encontro e discriminação de aspectos da anima; a ajuda de Hermes e a descida do herói ao Hades podem significar o encontro com o Self; os companheiros de Odisseu, o conflito com Posídon e Polifemo podem corresponder ao confronto e integração da sombra; e a sua chegada à Feácia nu, sozinho e sem pertences pode representar a desidentificação com a persona. A partir destes paralelos, discute-se que o longo processo de individuação do herói decorre das suas próprias escolhas conscientes e inconscientes, e da sua necessidade de integrar sua função inferior, o sentimentoapplication/pdfhttp://tede2.pucsp.br/tede/retrieve/50456/Leticia%20Goncalves%20Said.pdf.jpgporPontifícia Universidade Católica de São PauloPrograma de Estudos Pós-Graduados em Psicologia: Psicologia ClínicaPUC-SPBrasilFaculdade de Ciências Humanas e da SaúdeHomero - Odisseia - Crítica e interpretaçãoMito de UlissesMito - PsicologiaProcesso de individuaçãoHomer - Odyssey - Criticism and interpretationUlysses’ mythMyth - PsychologyIndividuation processCNPQ::CIENCIAS HUMANAS::PSICOLOGIAO mito de Ulisses como metáfora do processo de individuação masculino no modelo junguianoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessreponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações da PUC_SPinstname:Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP)instacron:PUC_SPTEXTLeticia Goncalves Said.pdf.txtLeticia Goncalves Said.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain467051https://repositorio.pucsp.br/xmlui/bitstream/handle/22626/4/Leticia%20Goncalves%20Said.pdf.txtb87e400ea13190307e63f50ce143324dMD54LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
